Module overview
This module builds on the fundamentals of transport modelling introduced in CENV6153 to explore some of the cutting edge techniques on the boundaries of transport and artificial intelligence. The aim is to introduce and equip transport modellers with the knowledge of techniques and understanding of applications to underpin the expected evolution of transport modelling over the next decade.
The module is focused around four key themes:
A.The ability of computers to learn to control transport systems faster/better than humans
B.The ability of methods to facilitate the interpretation of large transport related datasets
C.The ability of agent based modelling to replicate emergent transport system characteristics
D.The ability of virtual and augmented reality to explore traveller responses
Please note that there is a strong computer programming element to some of the activities in this module. Students should not choose this module unless they already have a reasonable level of computer programming ability and experience. If you are unsure, then please contact the module lead for advice before choosing this module.
Assessment for the module is through the completion of two mini-projects chosen by the student from a list representing the four key themes. This enables students to focus their time on the topics best suited to their interests and skills within the module syllabus.
