We explore and innovate advances in health across the life course.

The Institute of Developmental Sciences (IDS) is part of the School of Human Development and Health of the Faculty of Medicine. The Institute's director is Professor Philip Calder.

IDS opened in 2007 and is home to research groups in five key areas. Our work is done in close collaboration with colleagues from across the University and University Hospital Southampton. More than 200 staff and students use a wide range of knowledge and expertise to explore and innovate advances in health from the earliest moments of development and across the life course.
