Ruth Luzmore is a part-time Research Fellow in School of Education at the University of Southampton. Her work as Research Fellow is linked to MEGASKILLs, a European funded project to help bridge the gap between the educational offer and the labour market through the research and for training and evaluating soft skills through gaming.

Current research
Ruth’s current research involves contributing to a consortium project MEGASKILLS with the objective is to contribute to the development of the European Skills Agenda by bridging the gap between the educational offer and the labour market through the research and design of an innovative and affordable methodology for training and evaluating soft skills through gaming. This EU funded project is made of members from university institutions, research foundations and industry from four countries.
In addition, Ruth is supporting the research of the Ideas-Informed Society, contributing through systematics reviews, carrying out empirical research and supporting the development of theoretical frameworks. Other research interest includes the work of early career school principals and effective professional development of their teachers and the nature of inter- and intra- professional learning networks in schools.

Teaching
Ruth supervises MA students and is part of the teaching team for Management in Education Organisations within the School of Education. In addition, she teaches, supervises and mentors middle and senior leaders on an MA and SLA in Educational Leadership at another UK university.
Biography
Ruth worked in state schools in England in a variety of posts in Primary and all-through schools including teaching assistant, class teacher before eventually becoming a headteacher. Ruth has a strong interest in educational leadership in particular how school leaders design and enact continuing professional development in their settings. As a school leader, Ruth was commissioned to write for the education and UK press, recorded podcasts, ran conferences for teachers, was vice chair of a multi-agency board which looked after the interest of Primary children in PRU, co-authored a book and presented her work internationally. After leaving full-time work in schools, she worked as a freelance researcher as well as supporting the research, writing and editing of books.
She volunteers as a school governor for a local all-through school with a particular interest in curriculum, safeguarding and EDI and as a trustee for local Citizens Advice Bureau. Ruth teaches on a MA in Educational Leadership at another UK university.
