My PhD project will use latent growth curve modeling and pseudo-panel methods to investigate the impact of COVID-induced school closures on students' academic performance. The study will utilize data from PISA and PIRLS to determine if there has been a change in student competence levels following the closures, and whether this change varies based on gender, socioeconomic status, and immigration status. Additionally, the study will employ the synthetic control difference-in-difference method to assess the impact of Covid-related distance learning and remediation policies on students' achievements, and to identify any vulnerable student groups. Another project will work with Dr Nicola Pensiero to explore the cognitive mechanism and rules behind creativity, as creativity become a key competence nowadays. Additionally, I am working with Prof. Chris Brown and research fellow Ruth Luzmore to develop theoretical frameworks for fostering an Ideas-Informed Society.
