Silica optical fibre

Fibre fabrication services and expertise

We boast state-of-the-art facilities in the fibre fabrication domain. Expertise within our dedicated research groups underpins support for both research and enterprise work.

Our capabilities

Hollow core fibre

Hollow core fibres have the potential to revolutionise quantum communication, and laser delivery across industrial and medical applications, and sensing. We have successfully developed new designs and are proud to have fabricated the world's lowest-loss hollow core fibres.

For more information visit Hollow Core Fibre research group.

Gas photonics in hollow core fibres

Hollow core fibres enable gas-light interactions over extended lengths. This opens up diverse applications in high sensitivity gas sensing, novel wavelengths generation, and waveguide enhancement.

For more information visit Gas Photonics in Hollow Core Fibres research group.

Advanced fibre application

This group explores advanced applications of cutting-edge optical fibres, emphasising hollow core fibres. These fibres are designed and fabricated by the Hollow Core Fibre group. Our group focuses on aspects of these newly-emerging fibres from the ‘user perspective’.

For more information visit Advanced Fibre Applications research group.
