My research interests involve exploring the life course - investigating how events in childhood may have long lasting impacts across a person’s life. I am bringing my extensive PhD experience of the analysis of birth cohort data to our MELD-B project, focussing on the prevention of multimorbidity across the life course. The MELD-B project aims to understand the influence of wider determinants of health in childhood (pregnancy until age 18) on future multimorbidity risk. We have developed and published a conceptual model that identifies 12 important early life domains of future multimorbidity risk. We are in the process of identifying critical time points in childhood for interventions, and we are modelling prevention scenarios with the aim of identifying how changing someone exposure to things in childhood may influence the risk of multimorbidity.
