Ben conducts qualitative policy research for the Software Sustainability Institute, covering topics such as digital skills, critical software, and non-traditional academic careers.
Ben's PhD explored inequalities in the digital and creative industries over the life course. He studied how workers in Film and TV, Games and Websites renegotiated their creative careers as they navigated getting in and getting on while dealing with life course transitions such as childcare, mental and physical health challenges and aging, in the face of endemic structural challenges.
Ben also has a MSc in Social Research Methods and Sociology from the University of Southmapton, and a MSc in Global Development Management from the Open University.
Prior to his return to study, Ben was a music teacher for 10 years.
