Marine Biology and Ecology

Fish on the ocean bed

Research in our group focuses on understanding the effects of environmental change and human activities on marine ecosystems and biodiversity from the coast to the deep-sea. We investigate changes at biochemical, cellular, individual and community levels.

Based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, we apply observational, experimental and analytical techniques to address questions surrounding the consequences of environmental change and human activities on marine organisms and ecosystems. These are fundamental for socio-economic human well-being. We inform management decisions, locally, nationally and internationally.
