About
Dr. Ye Li is a Lecturer in Construction Materials within the Infrastructure Research Group at the School of Engineering, University of Southampton. He joined the university in January 2025 as a Lecturer. Before this, he served as an Associate Professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen. Dr. Li earned his PhD from Nanyang Technological University in 2018.
Dr. Li’s research focuses on the development of high-performance and sustainable concretes for civil infrastructure in extreme environments. During his PhD, he investigated the behaviour of high-performance concrete under high temperatures, emphasising its susceptibility to strength loss and explosive spalling in fire conditions. In the realm of sustainable construction, Dr. Li addresses the dual challenges of reducing CO₂ emissions in concrete production and recycling construction waste. Dr. Li integrates advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques into concrete analysis, applying computer vision for quantitative assessments of concrete microstructures and leveraging AI algorithms to accurately predict concrete properties.
Dr. Li’s teaching portfolio includes courses on high-performance construction materials, novel material characterisation techniques, and structural analysis. He is committed to creating an engaging and practical learning environment that bridges the gap between material science, structural application, and sustainability.
You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.
Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.
You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.
