About
My research is in the broad fields of public opinion, political behaviour, and political psychology. I am primarily interested in how people develop attitudes towards their political systems - such as democratic attitudes, political trust, democratic satisfaction - and the consequences these attitudes have for policy preferences and political behaviour. I tie these to issues of representation, particularly in terms of (social) class, and have a particular interest in redistribution and welfare policy. I have previously worked on issues of European integration and globalisation, where I still do some work.
My work has been published in academic journals such as the British Journal of Political Science, European Journal of Political Research, Political Science Research and Methods, European Union Politics, West European Politics, and the Journal of European Public Policy, amongst others. I am also currently working on a book on political trust (with Will Jennings, Gerry Stoker, and Viktor Valgardsson), which is under contract with Cambridge University Press.
I am currently an Associate Editor of the journal Public Opinion Quarterly and from 2025 will be an Associate Editor for Journal of European Public Policy.
I work and have worked with a variety of non-academic organisations such as the Institute for Government and Open Society European Policy Institute. I regularly write for general audience outlets and am available for consultancy work.
I joined Politics and International Relations at Southampton after three years at the University of Oxford, St Hilda's College. I finished my PhD in Politics at the University of Southampton in 2020. I am affiliated with Nuffield College (University of Oxford) as an Associate Member.
