About
Spela is a Research Fellow in Inclusive Ageing based in the Department of Gerontology and the Centre for Research on Ageing at the University of Southampton. She is currently working on the ESRC research project titled “Promoting inclusivity in pension protection and other forms of saving among men and women from black and minority ethnic communities in the UK: a mixed methods study”. Her role in the project is to lead the qualitative data collection and analysis, and the mixed methods design of the study.

Current research
Spela’s current research involves conducting a mixed method study to understand the socio-economic factors affecting financial resilience among current and future generations of older individuals from minority ethnic communities in the UK.

Biography
Spela joined the University in 2023. She was a recipient of the AHRC scholarship during her PhD at the University of Sussex. She is trained in sociology with extensive experience in applied research in the fields of gerontology and public health. Before joining the University of Southampton, she worked at the Singapore University of Technology and Design where she was involved in research projects on healthy ageing, age-friendly neighbourhoods, dementia-friendly communities, and social integration.
