I am an academic researcher passionate about improving healthcare and reducing health inequalities. My work synthesises evidence and builds consensus across areas such as sudden and unexpected child deaths, technology in health research, and support for bereaved families. Current research
Seilin’s research centres on enhancing healthcare quality and equity through rigorous evidence synthesis and innovative stakeholder engagement. Her work systematically integrates data from the health and social sciences to investigate pervasive health inequalities and inform policy reforms. She has contributed to consensus development and research priority setting in healthcare, collaborating with global organisations (including the World Health Organization) to establish ethical, evidence-based guidelines. Seilin’s projects examine sudden and unexpected child deaths by exploring health, social, and legal responses, and she employs proactive methodologies. Additionally, her research explores bereavement experiences and the development of multidisciplinary support systems for bereaved families. Her diverse programme is underpinned by commitments to sustainability, global health equity, and transparency, and it spans themes from health systems strengthening to the integration of technology in health research. These broad areas and key terms such as “global health equity,” “stakeholder engagement,” and “innovative methodologies” ensure that her work remains highly discoverable and impactful across various domains of health research and policy development.

Biography
Dr Seilin Uhm is a dedicated researcher in social and health sciences, specialising in evidence synthesis, consensus development and priority setting. With a background in psychology, she brings an interdisciplinary approach to understanding complex health challenges, particularly in patient-centred research and decision-making.
She holds a PhD in Public Health and Communication, which she completed at the Institute of Education, UCL, UK, in close collaboration with the EPPI-Centre and the James Lind Alliance. She is also an active member of the Cochrane Collaboration, serving as Co-convenor for the Cochrane Priority Setting Methods group and as a Spoke Leader for the Cochrane Planetary Health Thematic Group. This formative experience has refined her expertise in systematic review methodologies and stakeholder engagement.
Currently a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, she has contributed to multiple projects, including QUINTET, focusing on Sudden and Unexpected Death in Childhood (SUDIC), and ProACTIVE, which explores alcohol addiction services within NHS England. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor at Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korea, where she led research and teaching initiatives in communication, psychology and health sciences. Her work has been recognised in leading medical journals, including BMJ and The Lancet.
In her spare time, she indulges in knitting and gardening, demonstrating that even the most meticulous of scholars can weave together strands of creativity and cultivate a green thumb, proving that a keen academic mind can indeed stitch up a good yarn.
