Subglacial hydrology and proglacial lake dynamics
Amelia is a PhD Researcher interested in understanding subglacial hydrology and proglacial lake dynamics at Fjallsjökull, SE Iceland. Her main research interests include subglacial hydrology, glacial hydrology, and the use of remote sensing to understand glaciers and glacier hydrology in a changing climate. Before starting her PhD, Amelia completed an MScRes in Polar and Alpine Change at the University of Sheffield (2019) where she investigated tensile-shock drainage of supraglacial lakes in the Kangerlussuaq region of the Greenland Ice Sheet using remotely sensed imagery. She then went on to work as a Data Analyst at a water company before starting her PhD in 2022. Amelia has carried out fieldwork across the UK and overseas, including Iceland, Greenland and the European Alps. Amelia is actively involved as a postgraduate demonstrator within the School of Geography and Environmental Science, supporting students in GIS practicals, glaciology modules, and field work. She has also taught Geophysical Methods to postgraduate students at a Summer School hosted by the University of Bergen (2023).
