Current research
Alexander's current research looks at psychological concepts – concepts like belief, knowledge, awareness, and intention – as they function in the criminal law – e.g. in relation to negligence, consent, complicity, and self-defence). He is looking at how the role of these concepts in the criminal law can inform – and be informed by – discussions of them in epistemology and philosophy of mind and action.

Teaching
At Southampton, Alexander mainly teaches ethics. This has included courses on normative ethics, metaethics, applied ethics, and moral psychology.
Biography
Prior to coming to Southampton, Alexander was a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow at UCL, working on his project Belief in Philosophy and the Criminal Law. Before that, he held positions in Southampton, Birkbeck, Oxford, and Gothenburg, and studied for his PhD in Philosophy at Cambridge.
