About
Mahmoud is an Assistant Professor in Accounting and is the undergraduate (UG) Senior Tutor for the Accounting Department.
Mahmoud is a Higher Education Academy Teaching Fellow since 2013 and has been awarded the University of Southampton VC Teaching award for his efforts in building successful teaching teams and delivering outstanding education.
Mahmoud collaborates with researchers from the UK, China and MENA region. He is a member of research communities including Management Accounting Research Group (MARG) and The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA).

Current research
Mahmoud’s current research focuses on technology and change in accounting and control. In addition, he is working on research projects with his Ph.D. students in the area of corporate governance and carbon accounting.
He has been working recently on projects on the governance and management of public organisations, and the evolving roles of management control systems and management accountants.
Mahmoud’s research is published in top and highly prestigious accounting journals including ABACUS, Management Accounting Research and The British Accounting Review. His research was recognised and supported by CIMA - Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
He is an academic reviewer for Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies, International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation, International Journal of Management Accounting Research and The Asian Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference
Research seminars and is Program Facilitator for the Centre of Excellence in Accounting.

Biography
Mahmoud has a degree in Economics (2001), a Master degree in Accounting and Finance (2005) and unconditionally awarded PhD in Management Accounting (2010).
Prior to joining the University of Southampton in 2010, he worked as a Management Accountant in the manufacturing sector and as a part-time Teaching Assistant in the School of Economics, Management and Finance at the University of Bristol.
