Current research
I am currently doing two research projects. One investigates Chinese speakers’ identities and language ideologies in English medium instruction in law studies in a Chinese university, in collaboration with colleagues from Renmin University China. Another explores Chinese speakers’ language practice and identity in online intercultural experience, in collaboration with colleagues from South China University of Technology.

Biography
I joined the staff in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton in 2015, after I worked as a lecturer in Applied Linguistics in China for two years. I received the doctoral degree in 2012 with a research project, which explored Chinese speakers’ perceptions of their own way of using English in intercultural communication.
I worked as a programme coordinator on the organising committee of the Eighth International Conference of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF8) held in Beijing, 25-27 August 2015.
I have recently published a monograph on Language ideologies in the Chinese context with De Gruyter Mouton.
