Research groups
Any research groups you belong to will automatically appear on your profile. Speak to your line manager if these are incorrect. Please do not raise a ticket in Ask HR.
Research interests
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.
In Pure (opens in a new tab), select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading 'Curriculum and research description', select 'Add profile information'. In the dropdown menu, select 'Research interests: use separate lines'.
Current research
Update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’ and then ‘Curriculum and research description - Current research’.
Describe your current research in 100 to 200 words. Write in the third person. Include broad key terms to help people discover your work, for example, “sustainability” or “fashion textiles”.
Research projects
Research Council funded projects will automatically appear here. The active project name is taken from the finance system.
Publications
Public outputs that list you as an author will appear here, once they’re validated by the ePrints Team. If you’re missing any outputs that you’ve added to Pure, they may be waiting for validation.
Supervision

Biography
Dr. Khaled Mohammed grew up in Egypt and began his academic journey with a BSc (2001) and an MSc (2007) at Sohag University, Egypt, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Southampton (2010-2014). His doctoral research, conducted under the supervision of Professor John Evans, focused on cutting-edge supported metal/metal oxide nanoparticles for catalytic applications in vehicle exhaust systems.
Following his Ph.D., from 2013 to 2015, Dr. Khaled Mohammed worked as a "Research Associate" in the Department of Chemistry at University College London (UCL) with Prof. Sir C. Richard A. Catlow (UCL) and under the guidance of Prof. Robert Raja (Southampton). Subsequently, he served as a "Lecturer" at Sohag University from 2015 to 2019. Since late 2019, he has been a "Research Fellow" in the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton, initially working on the GCRF-START project (2019-2021) under Dr. Peter Wells, and later on an EPSRC-funded project led by Dr. Peter Wells, Dr. Marina Caravetta and Prof. Chris Skylaris. Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Khaled has honed his expertise, particularly in leading research projects in Synchrotron Methods for Catalysis, with a focus on sustainable energy applications.
Dr. Khaled Mohammed's expertise lies in using in situ/Operando methods, such as XAFS and MAS solid-state NMR, to understand structure-activity correlations in catalysis for sustainable energy and environmental applications.
