About
Joerg is Head of the Operational Research Group at the University of Southampton, the largest group of Operational Researchers in the UK, and a Fellow of the Operational Research Society of the UK, indicating "a very high level of achievement in, and/or a major contribution to operational research". He is a member of the Council for Mathematical Sciences, advising the UK government and representing the interests of mathematics to the government. Joerg is associate editor of Computational and Applied Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Computation. Asia-Pacific Journal of Operations Research, and Computational Optimization and Applications. He is co-funder of the startup Nucleolus, bringing novel approaches from machine learning and artificial intelligence to the world of healthcare and gaming. Joerg regularly collaborates with industry and public bodies, such as Airbus, Boeing, DSTL, the European Space Agency, Ford, Heathrow Airport, Northrop Grumman, RNLI, and others.

Biography
Joerg obtained his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Dortmund, Germany, in 1997. After visiting positions at the universities of Berkeley (USA), Brussels (Belgium), and Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) he was awarded an associate professorship at the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2004 and a full professorship at the University of Southampton (UK) in 2007.
