Current research

My latest book is Republic: Britain's Revolutionary Decade, 1649-1660 (Faber and Faber, 2024). It was picked as one of the 'Best History Books of 2024' by The Times, Telegraph, Unseen Histories and History Today. Early research for the book was supported by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship.

I am currently a co-investigator on a major AHRC research project, ‘The Visible Crown: Elizabeth II and the Caribbean, 1952-present’ (visiblecrown.com), working with colleagues at City, UCL and the University of the West Indies. This timely project scrutinises the political and cultural significance of the Queen in the eight Caribbean countries where she was, until her death, head of state. Charles III succeeded his mother as head of state in each country.

I am represented by Catherine Clarke at Felicity Bryan Associates.
