About
Marcus is a Professor of Science Education and a former Head of the Education School. His main research interests focus on learning and teaching about socio-scientific issues, particularly in the areas of biodiversity conservation, health and wellbeing, and environmental issues. He is also involved in outdoor science education.

Current research
At the moment, Marcus is exploring cultural aspects of education about nature and conservation in England and Japan. He is working with his colleague, Ran Peleg, on the design of outdoor escape rooms and with his colleague, Andri Christodoulou, on the Wild Citizens project, which investigates the best ways to engage young people with wildlife in their school grounds.

Biography
Before working at Southampton Education School, Marcus taught science at comprehensive schools in London and was Headteacher at a Berlitz school in Tokyo.
