You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.
Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.
You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.
Research
Research interests
- Design of estimation and control techniques, with convergence guarantees, for finite and infinite-dimensional systems
- Robust predictive modelling and analysis of high-dimensional data (e.g., network, time-series, imaging)
- The cross-over between artificial intelligence and mathematics for interpretable and robust computational algorithmic designs
- Applications include, but not limited to, biomedical systems (e.g., oncology, cardiovascular system) and automotive/robotic systems
Current research
Dr. Belkhatir's research interests are currently focused on the design of estimation and control techniques with convergence guarantees for nonlinear systems, along with robust predictive modelling and computational algorithmic design for high-dimensional data. In addition, she works on the application of these topics to various biomedical and physical systems. She has worked and collaborated with an international interdisciplinary research and clinical teams and has experience in designing and implementing theoretical and computational techniques for a number of biomedical application (oncology, hemodynamic response in the brain and cardiovascular system).
For an up-to-date publications of Dr. Belkhatir, they are best found via the Google Scholar link.

Research groups
Any research groups you belong to will automatically appear on your profile. Speak to your line manager if these are incorrect. Please do not raise a ticket in Ask HR.
Research interests
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.
In Pure (opens in a new tab), select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading 'Curriculum and research description', select 'Add profile information'. In the dropdown menu, select 'Research interests: use separate lines'.
Current research
Update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’ and then ‘Curriculum and research description - Current research’.
Describe your current research in 100 to 200 words. Write in the third person. Include broad key terms to help people discover your work, for example, “sustainability” or “fashion textiles”.
Research projects
Research Council funded projects will automatically appear here. The active project name is taken from the finance system.
Publications
Public outputs that list you as an author will appear here, once they’re validated by the ePrints Team. If you’re missing any outputs that you’ve added to Pure, they may be waiting for validation.
Supervision
Current PhD Students
Contact your Faculty Operating Service team to update PhD students you supervise and any you’ve previously supervised. Making this information available will help potential PhD applicants to find you.

Biography
Dr. Zehor Belkhatir (ZB) is a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in the School of Electronics and Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering Programme Leader at University of Southampton (UoS). She is also a member of the Institute of Life Sciences at UoS and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at De Montfort University. Dr. Belkhatir received her joint MEng. and M.Sc. Degrees from “École Nationale Polytechnique” of Algiers in Automatics and Control Systems Engineering. Then, she carried on her doctoral studies at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering. She held the position of Lecturer in Control Engineering at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, and before that a Postdoctoral Research Scholar Position at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, USA.
ZB’s research interests encompass work across the fields of control systems theory, applied mathematics, and data analytics. A common thread in her research lies in analysing, understanding and controlling the class of experimentally constrained complex systems that mainly exhibit stringent non-invasiveness, physical and/or economical constraints, as well as the inability to do controlled experiments on them. To achieve this aim, ZB works on research projects that consist of developing theoretical estimation/control techniques with convergence guarantees, and computational algorithms that rely on mathematical and/or data-driven models, with the ultimate goal of bridging the gap between theory and real-life applications. A special emphasis of her research has been focused on the application of developed techniques and algorithms to, but not restricted to, systems belonging to the biomedical field, where there are severe constraints on controlled experiments and sensor invasiveness.
ZB’s research work was published in renowned peer-reviewed journal/conference papers and book chapters and resulted in a filled US patent. In addition, she serves as a reviewer for high-impact journals and conferences (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Automatica, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, IEEE American/European Control Conference, …etc.). She is also a member of EUCA Conference Editorial Board.
