Module overview
This modules teaches the basic principles of research communication skills. It covers essential scientific writing skills including, organization of written material, presentation of quantitative information, citation and referencing, and academic integrity. Furthermore, the module covers how to communicate scientific material well in oral presentations. The basic principles and practice of consultancy in statistics / demography /global health are also covered.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how to summarise scientific material and results clearly and present them in an appropriate form to a range of audiences.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of producing actual examples of good oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the conventions and best practice in written and oral presentations, including referencing and citations.
Syllabus
The first component of this module focuses on writing skills including, organization of written material, presentation of quantitative information, citation and referencing, and academic integrity.
The second part of the module teaches you how to communicate scientific material well in oral presentations. Students will be organised into groups and each student/or small group will give an oral presentation. Each student will be required to attend at least one of the presentation sessions.

Teaching and learning methods
The module will contain a mixture of lectures, a workshop and a series of presentation seminars. Students will be exposed to some practical material on how to produce scientific reports, prepare and delivery oral presentations and gain knowledge and understanding of statistical consultancy. The module will contain both theoretical and practical delivery outcomes.
