Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Understand the mathematical background behind geophysical survey methods
• Conduct a systematic desk-based analysis including literature review and data mining
• Communicate your work effectively in a range of formats including oral presentation and written reports
• Demonstrate experience of offshore geophysical surveys, including gaining an awareness of how equipment is safely mobilised, and systematic documentation of the data acquisition
• Systematically plan an effective offshore survey to achieve specific objectives, including choice of an appropriate suite of survey equipment
• Use GIS for analysis and presentation of geospatial data
• Understand the context and requirements for geophysical surveys with particular emphasis on those conducted in a marine environment linked to sustainable development

During this module you will learn:

How the Earth sciences are essential to achieve UN sustainable development goals

Why geophysical surveys are essential to achieve sustainable developments, particularly within an offshore context, and how companies apply the outcomes of those surveys

How to design a survey to achieve specific objectives, including selection of the appropriate techniques and equipment

How equipment is mobilised, and how different items of equipment interact with one another

Effective reporting of a data acquisition programme

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, workshops, computer practicals, and boat-based fieldwork will be used at different stages of this module.

In addition there will be professional development sessions to support future careers
