- Different type of geohazards (earth hazards and shallow geohazards).
- An appreciation of the societal consequences of geological hazards.
- Hazard monitoring (methods) and hazard assessment.
- The nature, distribution and mechanisms involved in different types of geohazards.
- Hazard risks and hazard mitigation
Syllabus
The module introduces students to the basic theory for the creation and the existence of different kind of geohazards (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, landslides (terrestrial and submarine), rockslides and falls, flooding, and climate change), the monitoring, the risk assessment, and hazard zonation mapping. It facilitates the understanding of primary and secondary effects on the environment and society by discussing specific examples and case studies from different localities around the world.

Teaching and learning methods
Formal Lectures: will provide the basic theory underlying geological hazards.
Web-based learning: will exemplify the theory and provide you with an opportunity to complete hazard zonation evaluations.
A wide range of support can be provided for those students who have further or specific learning and teaching needs.
