Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Critically evaluate research relating to broad topics of human sexuality
- Describe key sexuality concepts such as gender, sexual orientation, and function
- Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues in human sexuality based on theory and research findings.
Syllabus
The aims of this modules are to:
- to provide an overview of the diversity of human sexuality
- to gain a better understanding of the biological, social, cultural, and psychological influences of sexuality and sexual behaviour
- to explore theory and research within the study of sex science
- to promote understanding and critical evaluation of how sexuality is studied, portrayed, and understood
Key topics will include:
- sexual function
- gender
- sexual orientation
- attraction, intimacy, and love
- sexual communication
- sexual behaviour and relationships
Learning and Teaching
Teaching and learning methods
Teaching and learning methods include 11 x two-hour lectures and 1 x two-hour tutorial session with small and large group discussion. Students will be expected to read all core readings and some additional readings and, where relevant, to make use of internet resources for seeking further information.
