Students will be supported and guided in planning and completing an empirical research project aimed at testing one or more hypotheses in the field of psychology.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Conduct a comprehensive critical literature review by searching, evaluating, and synthesising previous research in a defined area of psychological interest to identify research gaps and unresolved questions.
- Perform suitable statistical or qualitative analyses to test hypotheses and answer research questions effectively.
- Develop at least one novel, meaningful, informed, and testable research hypothesis and select an appropriate study design and methodology to test such hypothesis/ hypotheses.
- Communicate research findings effectively in a full research report comprising introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections, adhering to scientific and disciplinary standards.
- Interpret and critically discuss research findings by relating results to hypotheses and psychological theories, while identifying limitations and discussing implications.
- Demonstrate practical research skills, including preparation of study and ethics documents (e.g., participant information sheets, consent forms, recruitment flyers), participant recruitment, and the use of software for data collection, management, and processing.
Syllabus
Workshops/lectures:
Students will be given periodic sessions on a range of different topics that are relevant to their projects. These can include topics such as:
-Introduction to final year research project methodologies
-Evidence Synthesis
-Qualitative Research
-Surveys and Interviews
-Conducting a Literature Review to identify my research questions
Individual supervision:
-Supervisors are responsible to teach students specific research methodologies in their areas of expertise, or provide secondary data, as applicable.
Stats drop-in sessions
In Semester 2, students will also be able to attend stats drop-in sessions led by postgraduate research students.
