Empirical Studies II

Module overview

The module is to learn and apply practical and technical skills in the context of real research, for example, * relating designs to research questions, * processing and analysing "raw" data according to given research question and design, * interpreting and reporting findings from quantitative or qualitative analyses, and * following academic conventions for reports and data presentations. One of the pre-requisites for PSYC3003, PSYC3005, PSYC3053, PSYC3058 and PSYC3069.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning methods

The class will include a mixture of weekly in-person lectures and workshops, video recordings, eTutorials, online text-based Q&A, and weekly sign-up for individual supervisory meetings. You will be expected to attend lectures and workshops, and do homework exercises e.g., watching a preparatory video prior to a lecture. You will also be expected to work on the coursework on a weekly basis. Online, text-based Q&A is used to anonymously address queries that are emailed to tutors or that are asked during individual meetings. Students are strongly encouraged to engage in peer tutoring during and outside workshops to consolidate learning, develop communication skills and social support.
