Module overview
This module allows you to expand your music performance skills to a high standard. A combination of individual tuition (7 lessons of 1 hour each) and a variety workshop and public performance opportunities provide you with the chance to study new repertoire, improve your technical skills and add to your performance experience. Attending concerts and events also gives you the opportunity to see professional musicians in performance.
Registration on this module requires the agreement of the Director of Undergraduate Music Programmes; it is normally expected that, prior to taking the module, students will have achieved ABRSM Grade 8 or equivalent, and/or be able to demonstrate this standard in an audition with a member of performance teaching staff.
This module is not available to single or joint honours Music students.

- Exercise excellent technical control of your instrument(s) (facility, pitch range, flexibility, tone control, muscular coordination).
Syllabus
You will meet with your instructor individually and will be required to learn repertoire appropriate to your level and year, as well as technical materials provided by performance staff.
You will attend lunchtime concerts and engage in relevant performance projects and workshops run by visiting musicians, members of the department and Heads of Performance.
You will be required to complete a practical performance examination.
Learning and Teaching
Teaching and learning methods
Teaching will be delivered in lessons with specialist teachers and workshop sessions. You will be given the opportunity to perform in classes/workshops, department performance projects (often resulting in public performance), as well as the opportunity to take part in workshops and masterclasses with visiting performers. You will also learn while listening and observing lunchtime concerts and while rehearsing with accompanists (if appropriate for your specialism). There will be a series of classes dealing with professional practice in performance, such as: practice habits, programming, programme notes and promotion/marketing.
Students receive verbal feedback during each lesson. Feedback on the performance exam is given in writing by the examiners on an exam sheet providing a mark, detailed commentary on the performance itself.

Information. Library contains many helpful resources for students on music modules. The students can access music manuscripts, historical anthologies, and recordings in the library. Recordings come both in the form of CDs and also online through the Naxos Music Library. www.naxosmusiclibrary.com
