Strategic Human Resource Management

Module overview

This module provides third-year students with a broad range of both theoretical and practical views on key topics of human resource management and strategy. From the theoretical perspectives, students will understand how organisations can develop and implement HR strategies that contribute to their competitive advantage and long-term success. From the practical perspectives, students will gain hands-on experience from practitioners and case studies about the implementation of strategies and initiatives that align HR practices with organisational goals and objectives.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning methods

The module will be delivered via the following teaching and learning methods: 12 lectures (two-hour lectures per week over twelve weeks) to cover the core concepts within the outline syllabus Tutorial classes based on small groups, working on case studies and discussing any issues arising from the lectures, background reading or coursework Directed readings and formative assessments will be given throughout the module. Interactive group discussions in lectures and seminar classes, working on specific fiction and non-fiction case studies Learning from practitioners through a guest lecture Use of both in-person and online materials
