Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• critically assess the identified business challenges (such as developing new markets, customer relationships, products, services and processes).
• demonstrate commercial acumen and apply knowledge of the key drivers of business success and failure;
• critically evaluate the chosen techniques and methodologies, highlighting reliability, validity and limitations;
• justify the selection of a chosen topic;
• identify, collect and analyse appropriate data;

Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

• the selected field of study in management;
• research paradigms, research approaches, research strategies and research methods appropriate to chosen topic;
• current research related to chosen topic.

The module includes taught sessions and active learning on professional development, interpersonal skills, and research methods, as well as an independent applied research project.

Under the guidance of academic supervisors, students undertake applied research projects relevant to their programme of study, focused on an issue of their choice. They define and investigate the issue to propose evidence-based conclusions and recommendations.

They present the results of their work in the appropriate format (academic article/consultancy report/business plan), linking research outcomes to current theory and practice;

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching methods include:

• Private study
• Guided study and research activity as advised by the supervisor
• Practical experience
• Personal reflection

However, other teaching and learning activities may be undertaken by some students depending on their particular project.
