Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- On completion of the module, students will: Subject-specific understanding and knowledge •have a comprehensive, detailed and critical knowledge of the concepts, main principles and rules relating to commercial and consumer law, the law of sale, consumer credit law and agency law. Skills •analyse in a structured and systematic manner complex situations to identify legal issues and to develop sophisticated arguments about the appropriate ways in which law and remedies can be used to provide arguable conclusions for concrete problems •produce a synthesis of relevant doctrinal and policy issues in relation to a topic •communicate complex concepts effectively, orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner, using accurate legal terminology •plan and undertake research into unfamiliar areas of law •demonstrate a critical understanding of the uncertainty and limits of knowledge and how it is developed Attributes •exercise personal responsibility and initiative to manage their learning

Consumer Credit & Agency Law
•Classification of credit agreements
•Formalities for making regulated agreements
•Liability of the creditor/credit broker /supplier to the debtor
•Liability of the debtor to the creditor
•Termination of regulated credit agreements

•The agent’s authority to bind his principal
•The agent’s rights and duties

Teaching and learning methods
Teaching for this module is by lectures and tutorials. Lectures will introduce the main principles and structure of the subject. Students will be expected to provide the main input to the tutorials, where case studies and essay questions will be discussed.
