Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

• Produce scientific hypotheses and critically evaluate evidence in support of them
• Gain understanding of research methods and approaches in evolutionary sciences
• Assimilate information and synthesise scientific hypotheses
• Use library and other IT facilities to access scientific information
• Produce a review article of about 5,000 words on an agreed research topic

Transferable and Generic Skills

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Independently produce a major piece of writing of publishable quality around an agreed topic
• Map one's existing research skills and career development needs against the Phd/job market

This module is designed for students who are taking the MRes Evolution: From the Galapagos to the 21st Century degree. After discussion with the module coordinators and their supervisor, the student will write a review on a selected topic. Students will be directed to appropriate materials and attend workshops and meetings.

The principal method of teaching will be via 12 practicals and lectures. The module will have an important independent study component.
