Module overview

The module for Leadership & Ethics focuses on equipping you with the interdependent skills for innovative design thinking for Design Management. The Design council highlight (2020) that design encompasses ‘the head, the mind and the hand, to be able to effectively problem solve along with a focus to Human Centred activity and practical application. The Leadership module will considered the interconnectedness of leadership, design and business and focus on the shifting key challenges in a turbulent society today and of the future, recognising how and where design leadership plays its part. A key part of this is problem solving, considering the opportunities, constraints and challenges of the impact of sustainable practice, digital tech-nologies and the role artificial intelligence will play.

The module will explore skills such as design thinking, problem solving, project management and collaboration in design that enable a leader to strategically plan forwards. Curiousity, em-pathy and questioning are core skills that become a key part of the processes involved, as well as recognising the essential practicalities of resource, time and technological impacts. You will be introduced to ethics in leadership and how this is being challenged in the disruptive land-scape of GenAI to set new strategic activities to ensure authenticity.

The leadership module is also based on the understanding that research is increasingly inter-disciplinary, global and is conducted through a range of technologies and methods. The mod-ule will introduce you to the principles and role of research in the context of creative and cul-tural industries, as well as provide grounding for professional and leadership skills to equip you for employability.
