Within this module students are expected to develop a more focused and resolved approach to their practice and specialism as well as performing more complex skills with confidence, consistently evaluating their work and developing ideas from conception to realisation. Students will create ambitious collections of work preparing them for the Final Major Project and also start to work on their professional portfolio in readiness for graduation and employment.

- how to relate your practice to the professional context of textile design
- how to apply the methods, techniques and technologies that you have learnt to realise your ideas creatively
- how to utilise sources to further your design development
- an in-depth understanding of your specialist pathway which includes innovative concepts and how professional, cultural and technological changes impact on textile design
- industry practice, professional design and the location of your work within a relevant market level informed by your research.
Syllabus
Textile Design: Directions builds on your experiences in Part 1 and 2, by providing a focus through which you can begin to hone your skills, ideas and working methods into ambitious outcomes appropriate to your specialism. Emphasis will be on analysis and the evaluation of your ideas and practice. Greater critical thinking will help you recognise the strengths and weaknesses of what you are producing.
You will be encouraged to be highly independent and self-motivated, and to be ambitious and confident in the presentation of your work. Originality, coherence and detailed understanding of how to apply specific media and techniques, will be evidenced, by the production of complex design outcomes.
Students will produce textile collections aimed at a relevant industry context, fashion, interiors or surface decoration supported by a professionally presented portfolio..The quality and depth of contextual awareness will be to a higher level than previous presented.
The work and outcomes of this module inform and influence the focus and thinking of the Final Major Project.
