The perspectives and context provided by this module will enable you to identify an area impacted by fashion that is important to you. You will be introduced to debates relating to fashion futures – ethical, sustainable inc. technological, heritage, society, body, gender, wellness etc. – as these offer career orientation for the next stages in studying Fashion Design.

Informed by a such a critical context you will be asked to reflect on an area of change you wish to make in the form of writing and explore in practice how to make this change through the construction of your own unique garment.

In lectures, seminars and tutorials, we will discuss and look critically at major concepts and key positions and evaluate the relevance and significance of differing perspectives in relation to Fashion Design. Through this work we will encourage you to explore practically how the current developments can inform your own fashion work.

The project and content of this module is themed to provide a focused context to the development of your conceptual awareness of future fashion and embed it through practical skills.
