Research project

NISMOD-TRD: Developing applications of the ITRC-NISMOD transport model

Project overview

This project established and developed relationships between the transport modelling and strategies team in TRG and national, regional and local transport bodies, promoting the application of ITRC’s NISMODv2 Transport model.

The model has had relatively limited exposure to planners and strategic decision makers, and this project has developed collaborative relationships with

  • the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC)
  • Transport for the South East
  • England’s Economics Heartlands (EEH) (both subnational transport bodies)
  • Hampshire County Council (HCC)
  • Solent Transport.

In particular, transport options for future developments in Southampton, Portsmouth and the wider Solent Transport and Hampshire regions have been investigated, to assess the impacts of currently planned strategic objectives and determine possible pathways to meet such objectives, together with a comparison of the NISMOD-Tv2 model outputs and HCC’s Sub-Regional Transport Model (SRTM).

In addition, similar work has been undertaken for England’s Economic Heartland (EEH).
