Research project

Emotional engagement

Project overview

Emotions play an important role in learning, in all contexts of life. Although emotions are a powerful component of learning, they are under-theorized and under-researched in all contexts of learning. The deficit is especially noticeable in informal environments. There is a growing interest amongst researchers regarding emotions and emotional engagement related to learning. This growing interest is shared by informal environments practitioners, particularly science museums.

In this project I collaborated with Dr Luisa Massarani from the National Institute of Public Communication of Science and Technology in Brazil to develop a conceptual framework to explore emotions. In this project, I visited FioCruz institution to develop research. We presented in various conferences together and worked on data collection, analysis and dissemination.

This ongoing project was funded by various funds. Head of School fund for equipment for data collection, Faculty of Social Sciences ECR Career Development Fund and Faculty of Social Sciences Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise fund.
