Anaerobic digestion laboratory

More Information

About the Anaerobic digestion laboratory

This research laboratory is home to over 250 digesters of different types and sizes, from 0.5 to 100 litres.

We use these for batch tests to find out the biochemical methane potential of different substrates and to gather data from continuous feed kinetic studies.

We carry out work at all sizes of operation, from laboratory studies to monitoring commercially operating plant.

Technical specification

Our anaerobic digesters include:

  • continuously stirred tank reactors
  • upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors
  • anaerobic filters
  • submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactors

They operate at a range of temperatures from ambient to thermophilic. They use different substrates from dedicated energy crops to solid wastes and process wastewaters.
