Angelina has a consistent educational background in Graphic Design, holding a BA, MA, and PhD in the field. Her passion for Graphic Design has driven her to become an accomplished educator, researcher, and practitioner, earning multiple awards along the way.
She is currently a Teaching Fellow in Graphic Communication, specialising in motion, interaction, and information design. With a deep commitment to pedagogy research and curriculum design, Angelina aims to bring interdisciplinary and up-to-date design theory and practice to her students. She has five years teaching experience in higher education, both in the UK and China. She was awarded the “Doctoral Researcher Teaching Excellence” by Loughborough University in 2023 and was part of the “Education Team of the Year” in 2021.
As a design researcher, Angelina completed her PhD with a thesis titled “Graphic Landscape in Cities: Decoding the Identity and Meaning of Chinatowns in London, Manchester, and Liverpool.” Her research interests are interdisciplinary, spanning Graphic Design, Urban Design, Sociosemiotics, and Sociolinguistics. She is particularly passionate about exploring “how everyday graphic communication contributes to shaping resilient, revitalised, and inclusive urban environments in the context of globalisation”. Angelina has also worked as a Research Associate on a funded project, collaborating with researchers from Hong Kong, Sweden, and the UK on topics related to migration, culture, and café design. She continues to collaborate with researchers from various institutions on grant applications and paper publications.
In addition to her academic work, Angelina has practical experience in the creative industries. She has worked as a UX Designer for an internet company, developing an online shopping mobile application. She later expanded her design interests into space and place, working as an Environmental Graphic Designer, creating visual identities, wayfinding systems, and signage for schools. Recently, her design interests have shifted to AR, VR, and AI, where she aims to explore how digital technologies can be integrated with design to address user-based and problem-driven social issues.
