Biography

Rahul qualified in medicine from UCL with distinctions in Basic Medical Sciences and final MBBS examinations, as well as several undergraduate prizes and a first class intercalated BSc in pharmacology. He was appointed to an Academic Foundation post at Imperial College London, followed by an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship at the University of Southampton. On the basis of these achievements he was awarded an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship to undertake a PhD under the supervision of Professor Alex Mirnezami. He then undertook a period of postdoctoral research in Erik Sahai's lab at The Francis Crick Institute as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer, before returning to Southampton to complete his surgical training. His research interest is cell-cell interaction in the tumour microenvironment and in particular the role of exosomes in tumour-stroma interaction. His clinical interest is in surgery for colorectal cancer. He is married with two children and is a playing member of the Marylebone Cricket Club.
