Maya Goodfellow is an Anniversary Fellow based in the School of Economic, social and political sciences. As an Anniversary Fellow, Maya will be undertaking a three-year research project examining the rise in private security companies’ involvement in immigration enforcement in the UK.
Before joining the University, Maya was a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow at the Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute (SPERI), University of Sheffield. Her project focused on race and racism within the ‘centre’ ground of British politics, one of the products of which will be a forthcoming book examining racial capitalism in Britain.
Maya is also the author of Hostile Environment: How Immigrants Became Scapegoats, which was longlisted for the Jhalak Prize. She completed her PhD – which examined race and racism in British international development discourse – at SOAS in 2019.
