Biography

Dr. Marie Jarrell is an American researcher in psychology, computer science, digital art & animation, video game design, and AR/VR interaction. They are a former fellow of the French BIENVENÜE, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions fellowship program. This was a two year post doc is dedicated to conducting research on Human Computer Interactions primarily exploring embodiment of Augmented Reality (AR) avatars and their influences on people’s perceptions and behaviours. They are currently Lecturing at the Winchester School of Art on Games and Playable Narratives.

Dr. Jarrell is a PhD graduate from the Human-Centered Computing Division of the School of Computing at Clemson University. They also received two Masters Degrees at Clemson in Digital Production Arts and Computer Science. They have a B.A. in Graphic Design from Hampton University with a Minor in Computer Science and a Certificate of Cinema Studies.

Their research interests include video games, VR / AR simulations, embodiment, representation, and player-based identification. By combining their artistic and scientific skills to build video games and VR / AR simulations Dr. Jarrell explores these technologies’ impact on human learning, perceptions, biases, and behaviours. They have published, presented, and received numerous awards for their work illustrating the significant and varied impact VR/AR experiences and video games can have on people’s lives and larger society.

Marie Jarrell is an affiliate of the HATLab (Humans And Technology Lab) at Clemson University, the Lab-STICC laboratory at IMT Atlantique.
