About
Katie is a recent MSc Health Psychology graduate from the University of Southampton and is currently undertaking a PhD in Primary Care and Population Sciences within the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education. Katie's PhD is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Primary Care Research.
Katie's PhD research stems from the recent Department of Health and Social Care Women's Health Survey which highlighted many respondents feel unheard, dismissed or viewed as exaggerating during primary care consultations, especially those relating to menstrual and gynaecological symptoms and conditions. Using the person-based approach, Katie plans to build onto the existing EMPathicO digital intervention by developing a training module aiming to enhance GPs' communication of clinical empathy and realistic optimism in consultations relating to menstrual and gynaecological symptoms and conditions.
