Current research
Currently, Laura works as part of the ‘PRiAM: Privacy Risk Assessment Methodology’ project and the ‘PETRAS Data Sharing Foundation’ project. She is also a member of the research team for the ‘Social Data Foundation for Health and Social Care’ (“the SDF”) — a new data sharing initiative aimed at improving public health and patient care.

Biography
Dr Laura Carmichael is a Research Fellow within the IT Innovation Centre, School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton. Laura studied undergraduate Law at the University of Southampton — before completing an interdisciplinary MSc and PhD in Web Science. She has been involved in various interdisciplinary research projects related to data sharing and re-usage:
- The ‘Ordnance Survey Data Enrichment project’
- The ‘Operational Trustworthiness Enabling Technologies (OPTET) project’ funded by the European Union’s FP7-ICT programme
- The ‘Observing and Recommending from a Social Web with Biases project’ —a Web Science Institute (WSI) Pump-Priming Project
- The ‘Data Pitch open innovation programme’ funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme
- The ‘Provenance-driven and Legally-grounded Explanations for Automated Decisions (PLEAD) project’ funded by EPSRC
