About

Julie brings a variety of global clinical, operational and strategic experience and leadership to the School of Health Sciences. Prior to joining the University in 2011, Julie was a Consultant Nurse leading strategy and development of Primary Health Care services. During this time, she was also an Executive Board Member for Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group. She has undertaken a variety of International voluntary and consultancy health care leadership, management, and educational assignments.

Julie's expertise within her health education and leadership is working with individuals to maximise their potential to positively impact on the teams and complex environments they work within and achieve positive outcomes. Julie’s teaching also draws on her experience of developing and galvanising health care policy and procedure at operational level, to enhance education, patient experience, health outcomes and professional standards.

International projects have involved needs assessment, workforce improvement, standard setting, competence development and clinical education and training. Julie holds a Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences (DBMS) and is also a Registered Teacher with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). She holds both a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership Mentoring and Executive Coaching. Julie is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a mentor to colleagues in their applications for HEA Fellowships and promotions. She is also a module lead, a personal academic tutor and contributes to teaching, marking and student supervision on a variety of programmes of all academic levels. She is supervisor to MSc and PhD students.
