He is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Southampton where he is also Director of Internationalisation.

- Superconductivity (multicomponent pairing theory, FFLO states)
- Condensed Matter aspects of ultracold atoms (topological states in lattices)
- Foundations of Quantum Mechanics (Retrocausality, both in Bell experiments and the Measurement problem)
- Few-body physics in Fermi and Bose quantum liquids
Current research
His interests lie in many-body quantum physics, mainly in neutral ultracold matter. Here, traditional topics such as molecular physics intersect low-temperature physics (eg. Superfluidity, quantum liquids). This leads to interesting conceptual questions, many of which are being addressed in current experiments all around the world.

He has taught physics, mathematics and finance modules: Light and Waves, Integral Transforms, Mathematical Methods for Scientists and Engineers, Mathematical Finance, as well as supervised undergraduate projects on mathematical or finance topics.
Biography
Prof Lobo's undergraduate degree is in Engineering Physics (IST, Portugal), after which he got a MSc and PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (US). After that he did research in Paris, Amsterdam, Trento, Nottingham, and Cambridge (the last two as an EPSRC Advanced Fellow), before taking up a Lecturer position at Southampton where he has remained.
