Rosalyn Hyde is a Principal Teaching Fellow in secondary mathematics education at the University of Southampton. She has particular interests in initial teacher education and mathematics-specific pedagogy as well as the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.

Current research
Rosalyn's current work focuses on beginning teachers' perceptions and understandings of approaches to teaching secondary mathematics in England. She is also working with colleagues on a small project looking at young people's understanding of probability in STEM subjects.

Teaching
I currently work on the PGCE programme, specifically with secondary mathematics student teachers. I also work with MSc students supervising dissertations using literature reivew, project based and empirical approaches on a range of topics and co-supervise a PhD stuent working in the field of teacher education.
Biography
Following a mathematics degree and PGCE, both at the University of Southampton, Ros worked in several local schools for a number of years holding posts of responsibility within the mathematics departments. During this time Ros was an active member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics and also worked on a number of curriculum development projects. She also holds PhD, MA(Ed) and MPhil (ResMeth) degrees and is a past Chair of the Association of Mathematics Education Teachers.
Ros worked for The Mathematical Association as their Professional Development Officer for some time and has considerable experience in writing and training mathematics teachers. This has included curriculum development on a number of projects, including work for BECTa, the DCSF, the Secondary National Strategy, CfBT and the Association of Mathematics Education Tutors and Pearson. She co-edited Mentoring Mathematics Teachers: Supporting and inspiring pre-service and newly qualified teachers, published by Routledge. Mostly recently she co-edited Myths and Legends of Mastery in the Mathematics Curriculum published by Learning Matters. Ros works in partnership with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has recently completed PhD study in the field of employment-led initial teacher education.
