Module overview
During this module you will develop a project proposal and gain governance approval undertake a project in an NHS environment. You will then undertake the project during your final year placement.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Describe the ethical and governance approval processes required to undertake the planned research project.
- Undertake an evidence-based literature review, critically appraise the output, draw appropriate conclusions.
- Analyse the data using appropriate methods and statistical techniques and interpret, critically discuss and draw conclusions from the data.
- Work with a supervisor to design, plan and undertake a research project to test a hypothesis from conception to completion/archiving in accordance with ethical and research governance regulations, drawing on expert advice where necessary and involving patients and service users.
- Demonstrate an ability to present and disseminate information in a succinct, informative and sufficiently-detailed manner.
- Discuss the range of research undertaken in health and healthcare science and how these are applied in the specialism in which the student is based.
Syllabus
This module will build on the knowledge and skills gained from the Research Methods module, allowing you to carry out a project and disseminate findings.

Teaching and learning methods
During the autumn term you will develop a project protocol supported by online lectures, in-person taught sessions, seminar groups and individual tutorials. During the spring and summer terms you will then complete the project in an NHS environment as part of your final year placement.

Assessment strategy
To pass this module you must achieve a weighted mean average of 40% or more AND pass the written research paper component at 40% or more.
