After an introduction to the use of Geographic Information Systems to present and analyse secondary spatial data, the course is structured into two sections: Data Collection Techniques, and Handling and Understanding Data. Throughout the module, we focus on using the widest definition of data, from purely qualitative visual analysis of photo content, through to quantitative analysis of measurements of the physical environment. During the data collection section, you will learn how to gather data from a wide range of urban and physical environments to explore the ways in which humans and the physical environment interact and are inter-dependent. After you have collected your data, you will be taught how to process and analyse it using qualitative and quantitative techniques to explore and understands the underlying trends and themes in your data.
