Centre for English Identity and Politics

Illustration showing England and its diverse population

The political salience of England and British identities was evident in recent elections and referenda. The centre explores both the formation and meaning of these identities and England’s local and national governance.

The centre promotes seminars, conferences and research, engaging with politicians, parliaments, think tanks, commentators, universities and cultural institutions. Our director is Professor John Denham, a former Cabinet Minister and Labour MP.
